Just 7 days to Twinwood!
The Twinwood Festival site is looking amazing, and the team is currently hard at work setting up. This years Twinwood Festival line up is simply stunning, the best yet by far, and we are particularly excited about the new venues; the huge Colonial Club, The Glade, and not forgetting the magnificent Main Arena, The atmospheric Control Tower Stage Arena, The Casablanca Club, The Café Bois de Jumeau, The Hangar, The Dance Marquee, The Tin Hat Club, The Open Mic Club, and also our wonderfully themed music bars. This years line up is extra special, with the incredible Max Raabe & Palast Orchester, Si Cranstoun, John Miller & his Orchestra, The Jive Aces, and nearly 70 others who are performing live concerts over the weekend !!!!! There are also more traders than ever before attending, selling amazing vintage fashions and antique treasures. Ticket take-up this year has been fantastic, and as predicted we are on course for another early sell out! In fact, the reason for this announcement, is to remind you that if you haven't booked, or if you need an extra ticket you'll need to get it this weekend, because by early next week we'll be sold out and will be closing bookings. Rest your feet this weekend, because you'll need all of your energy to dance your socks off over the August Bank Holiday weekend!

Once again Twinwood Festival is placed in the top twenty of all festivals by the press.
The Daily Telegraph describes the festival  as "something a bit different, original and delightful. The only festival to combine the contemporary interest in all things swing, vintage and retro, with an inclusive spirit that welcomes those who remember swing in their youth. This means that Air Displays, Glenn Miller nostalgia, and lectures on the Battle of the Atlantic rub shoulders with Fashion Shows, and Burlesque evenings".

28th March 2011

We've been on the telly again! "The Dambusters" documentary on Friday, an hour long TV film on the Yesterday channel (SKY 537), featured Twinwood extensively. It told the incredible story of Wing Commander Guy Gibson's 617 Squadron dambusting raids in 1943.

26th March 2011

Congratulations to Sqn Ldr Geoffrey Wellum, the subject of the outstanding BBC drama "First Light" filmed at Twinwood last year, on being given the Freedom of the City of London. 10th February 2011

On 4th April an American Radio station will broadcast live from Twinwood Control Tower. The subject of its broadcast is the final and definitive statement on the truth of Glenn Miller's disappearance.
A research team from the USA, in conjunction with the Miller family in America, have been in Britain extensively researching the National Archives and other military sources and have unearthed many documents relating to the incident which have come to light for the first time. The findings are secret until the broadcast happens, but the fact that they want to broadcast from Twinwood gives us a good clue about the outcome. Watch this space for more details leading up to this event.

11th January 2011

Another addition to the line-up is the Wootton Big Band. They will be the opening act of the festival playing at 11.30am on Saturday Morning. These talented young musicians are all from the nearby Wootton Upper School which is renowned for its musical excellence.

Close your eyes and its Bing Crosby, then close your eyes again and its Perry Como. That's the amazing voice of Roy Chappell backed by his pianist Colin Hilton who will be performing both of the crooner's greatest hits in the Tin Hat on Saturday and Sunday night.

6th October 2010

The sensational Lola Lamour returns to the festival next year and will appear on the main stage as well as singing in the Casablanca Club on Saturday and Sunday nights.

We also have a newcomer to the festival appearing on the main stage and in the Casablanca Club. Her name is Maddie Brown, and you'll love her voice!

Both acts not to be missed!

4th October 2010

Work has begun on several new projects for next year's festival.

For those who wish to bypass the arena to go to other areas of the site we have created an enchanting extension to the Woodland Walk which runs through the wood at the rear of the main stage. This will ease the congestion in the arena and also eliminate the necessity to walk in front of the stage.

Three new venues for night entertainment will be up and running for next year.

The “Cafe Bois de Jumeau” will feature Fleur de Paris, Swing Museum and others performing Chanson et Musette from the 30s to the 50s including Hot Club, Gypsy Jazz, and Piaf etc. This will be a truly atmospheric venue.

You might bump into a Humphrey Bogart or an Ingrid Bergman look-a-like when you enter the “The Casablanca Club”. Step back in time to Wartime Morocco when you enter this dimly lit exciting new venue and expect some exotic entertainment. Maybe Sam will “play it again”.

Fancy yourself as a musician or singer? Then come to the “Open Mic Club” and let's see how much talent you've got. Who knows, we might sign you up for the next Twinwood Festival!

The “Café Bois de Jumeau” and “The Casablanca Club” are situated close to the “Nags Head” bar and the “Open Mic Club” will be nearer to the arena but will have its own small bar.

These three new night-time attractions are in addition to our existing venues,

The “Hangar” (40's dancing), the “Marquee” (Rock n Roll) and the “Tin Hat” (Swing and Jazz) so now there's plenty of choice for all you late night revellers!

27th September 2010

So far the following bands and artists have agreed to perform at Twinwood 2011:

There's loads more to come and of course all our regular hosts and DJs will be at the Festival as usual. We will now be putting more bands on the Control Tower Stage... more details to come very soon!

12th September 2010

The film "First Light" depicting the experiences of the youngest Spitfire Pilot will be sreened on BBC2 on Tuesday 14th September at 9pm. This superb film was made at Twinwood Airfield earlier this year and should not be missed.

8th September 2010

After another sell out, successful festival, plans are now underway for our tenth anniversary. Twinwood Festival 2011 will certainly be the biggest and best yet. More acts than ever will feature, especially on the Rock 'n' Roll (Control Tower) Stage. There will be an appreciable increase and variation of late night entertainment, giving a fabulously eclectic mix of music and entertainment based on the 40s and 50s eras. What you dont know is that the pilot will be The Red Bull Air Race 2009 World Champion, Paul Bonhomme. Paul is currently in the lead in the 2010 world championship  with one race to go at Lausitz in Germany on 7th/8th August. So lets keep our fingers crossed for him! 27th March 2010

Twinwood Events is proud to boast that it has extensive, permanent, and well maintaned toilets. However during the festival we have to hire in extra loos and these have to date been the plastic portaloo cabins, but not any more, from this year on we are improving the situation by hiring in flush toilet trailers which include wash basins and are so much nicer.

We know that everybody will appreciate this and it is just another example of how we are striving to make your experience at the festival better every year.

6th March 2010

We've just been talking to one of our long time festival friends, promoter and broadcaster Marilynn Harrat and she will be bringing along a jazz trio featuring her husband Peter on sax. We are pleased to announce they will be doing a live session at the Tin Hat at the beginning of Ricardo Gazzini's show on Saturday. Not to be missed!

There is always a mad rush at the beginning of each Festival so we've decided to open up the camp site a day earlier to make things a little easier. For those who are able to come earlier we will allow the pitching up of caravans and tents from mid-day on Thursday 26th August. Please note that we cannot guarantee that the showers and some toilets will be installed by Thursday, but the permanent toilet block will be open. Also the Camp Site Shop will not open until Saturday morning.

31st October 2009

THE 2010 LINE UP IS READY
We've booked some great new acts for 2010 as well as asking your old favourites back as well. CLICK HERE to view the line up page.

THE TWINWOOD MEMORIAL
On the Sunday morning of the Festival at 10.30 in front of the Control Tower a memorial dedicated to those who served at Twinwood During World War II will be unveiled. There will be a short service and fittingly a Spitfire will do an air display over the site. This will be the first memorial to be erected at Twinwood.

26th October 2009

THE TIN HAT CLUB
We are now installing a full wooden sprung dance floor along with reducing the stage size to improve the dancing experience at Ricardo Gazzini's Jazz Nights.

RICARDO GAZZINI'S JAZZ NIGHTS
Whilst on the subject of Jazz, Ricardo has asked if he can do a Friday night session to add to the very popular Saturday and Sunday sessions. Naturally we agreed!

RUGCUTTERS HANGAR DANCE
Those of you who are already familiar with Paul Claydon's Dance Workshops in the Marquee and the Hangar will be pleased to hear that Paul will now be host and DJ to a 1930's/40's dance in the Hangar on Friday night and therefore in addition to the Nag's Head Bar the Officer's Mess Bar will now also be open on Friday night.

This now means that there will Jazz at the Tin Hat, Hangar Dances, and Marquee Dances on Friday , Saturday, and Sunday night. So plenty of choice for all you late night revellers!

EXTRA ROOM FOR DANCERS ON THE MAIN ARENA
Due to popular demand the 2010 Festival sees a new dance floor being laid in the arena at the rear Front of House Mixing Position and Delay Tower. This floor is in addition to the existing one and has its own sound system and extra lighting.

NEW CARAVAN AND CAMPING SITE
A further 25 acres of land adjacent to the camp sites on the arena side of the airfield has now been laid to grass and all being well this new site will be ready for 2010. This means that more campers will be able to walk to the arena instead of having to catch the shuttle bus from the other side of the airfield.

TIN HAT CLUB LECTURES
To add to the variety of entertainment available at the Festival we are now planning to stage interesting talks at the Tin Hat Club. The plan is to have two lectures per morning on subjects covering aspects of World War II and also life in the 40s. These lectures will be enhanced by films played on our in-house cinema. Twinwood has already staged lectures before with great success and we're sure that many visitors will enjoy these prior to each days music activities.
